Where does the time go?

I ask myself this question every time I stare disbelievingly at my "Honey Do" list. I also asked myself this question as I realized that I haven't blogged in days, and I have about 15 of blogs in some level of editing. So I decided to just write a new one instead. Inspiration is whimsical.

I'm sure I'm not alone in the feeling that time flies, and that there's lots to do. You, the occasional reader of this blog probably feels the same way. Where does the time go?

When talking to friends and acquaintances, I often relate what my honey and I do during the average week. Home projects, walks, plays, concerts, and when the weather is right, we ski, bike ride, hike, and run. Many people I talk to get tired just listening to me talk about what we do. We never have to worry about losing vacation time, we use it pretty regularly.

What is the difference between us and most other people? When we met, neither of us had a television connection. We'll be married 15 years in May, and we still have no cable or satellite television connection.

We do watch movies, but only through our Netflix subscription. I think we saw a total of 4 movies together in the past year. I watch a bit more, but generally it is while pedaling a bicycle mounted on a trainer. Movies are a reward for working the heart.

I'm not telling you this to brag, I am just stating a fact. We aren't average, and are thankful for this. The average American watches 8 hours of TV a day. That's a lot of time. The only drawback of our not having a television is that we can't talk to acquaintances about the latest episode of Who Wants to be Lost on American Idle, or whatever the name of that show is.

So where does your time go? It probably gets sucked into the black box in your living room.

  1. Bob, I stopped watching television about a year ago. Mostly because I became bored with it, but also I found the material offensive. I don't miss it a bit!

  2. Television is all entertainment, including the "news".
